The flesh is pure character work. Jason talks. He talks to gods, to princesses, to functionaries, to monsters mid fight, and half the fandom shows up purely for the scenes where somebody finally talks back.
It is also a commitment in the best sense. These are long books, the series runs twelve deep and is still moving, and the tone swings from beach picnic banter to genuine moral reckoning without dropping either one. Start at book one and warn your calendar.
